Pay data: three months to December 2022

Three pay research bodies have published pay data for the three months to the end of December 2022.

  • XpertHR recorded a median basic pay award of 5.0% across the whole economy for the three months to the end of December (lower quartile: 3%; upper quartile: 8%). In the private sector, the value of the median base pay award over the year to the end of December was 4% and in the public sector it was 3.8%.
  • Incomes Data Research show the median at 4.6% for the same period (interquartile range 2.5% to 7.0%). As regards pay intentions for 2023, IDR finds that over half of employers anticipate awarding increases of 5% or more (and its initial look at already-decided pay outcomes for 2023 , based on 85 awards, reveals a median settlement of 5% with an interquartile range of 3.6% - 6%).
  • According to the Labour Research Department, the median for the period ending December 2022 was 7.6% on lowest basic pay rates, rising to 8.3% in just private sector deals.
