Fit note changes
From 1 July 2022 a wider range of healthcare professionals will be able to certify fit notes.
The Social Security (Medical Evidence) and Statutory Sick Pay (Medical Evidence) (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 2022 provide that registered nurses, occupational therapists, pharmacists and physiotherapists will be able to certify and issue ‘fit notes’. This change has been made, according to the government press release, to reduce pressure on GPs. It follows the removal, in April 2022, of the need for fit notes to be signed ink.
