Pay data: three months to October 2023

Various research bodies have published pay data for the three months to the end of October 2023.

  • Incomes Data Research shows the median pay award at 5.5% for the three months to October (interquartile range 4.9% to 6.5%).
  • XpertHR recorded a median basic pay award of 6.0% across the whole economy for the three months to the end of October (lower quartile: 5%; upper quartile: 7%). Median public sector awards over the year to October 2023 stand at 6.5% - the highest level since 1991
  • According to the Labour Research Department, the median for workers on lowest basic pay rate for the three months ending October was 6.0%.
  • The CIPD Autumn 2023 Labour Market Outlook forecasts that the median expected basic pay increase over the next 12 months will 5% (in the private and public sector). In the past year, over a third of employers have made additional pay rises outside their original pay cycle, with many anticipating doing so again next year.
