Pay data: three months to May 2023

Various research bodies have published pay data for the three months to the end of May 2023.

  • Incomes Data Research shows the private sector median pay award at 5.8% for the three months to May (interquartile range 4.5% to 8.0%).
  • XpertHR recorded a median basic pay award of 6.0% across the whole economy for the three months to the end of May. The most common pay award was at 5%, made in nearly a quarter of all deals it recorded. Pay freezes accounted for 3.1% of the 228 pay awards covering approximately 379,000 employees.
  • The Labour Research Department records the median for the period ending May at 8.0% on lowest basic pay rate (impacted by the rise in the NMW) and at 7.0% on the standard increase (what most workers got out of these agreements).
