Pay data: three months to December 2021

Various research organisations have published pay data for the three months to the end of December 2021, as well as forecasts for early 2022.

  • Data from the Labour Research Department shows the median standard increase for the three months to December 2021 was 4.8%.
  • XpertHR recorded a median basic pay award of 2.0% across the whole economy for the three months to the end of December 2021 (lower quartile: 1.5%; upper quartile: 3.0%) – this was based on 28 pay settlements. Looking ahead, XpertHR indicates a predicted rise to 2.5% in January 2022 (the second busiest month for pay settlements after April). Its preliminary analysis of a limited sample of January awards shows that the median has jumped to 3% (lower quartile: 2.5%; upper quartile: 4.0%).
  • Incomes Data Research has the median award at 3% for the three months to December. Its early look at 2022 outcomes (based on 57 awards) shows the median award across the whole economy at 3% (interquartile range: 2.1%-4.0%).
