Working safely guides updated

Government guidance on working safely during COVID-19 has been updated.

Originally, eight sectors were covered; the guidance now covers 14 in total - close contact services; construction and other outdoor work; factories, plants and warehouses, heritage locations; hotels and other guest accommodation; labs and research facilities; offices and contact centres; other people’s homes; restaurants, pubs, bars and takeaway services; shops and branches; vehicles; performing arts; providers of grassroots sport and gym/leisure facilities; and the visitor economy.

Among the issues addressed in the updates are the following:

  • Encouraging employers to take steps to avoid individuals needing to unduly raise their voices to each other in the workplace - intended to reduce the risk of aerosol transmission.
  • Advising employers to ensure that their records of staff contact details are up to date, so that if a local PHE health protection team declares a COVID-19 outbreak they can record details of their symptomatic staff and help with identifying contacts.
  • Advising employers to have an up to date COVID-19 outbreak plan, as well as a nominated single point of contact for communication with the local PHE health protection team where possible.
