Pay data: three months to April 2021

Various research organisations have published pay data for the three months to the end of April 2021 which seem to show an uptick in settlement levels.

  • The median pay award across the economy has risen to 2.0% for the three months to April 2021, according to the latest analysis by Incomes Data Research (interquartile range: 1.0%-2.2%).
  • Data from the Labour Research Department shows the median standard increase for the three months to April 2021 was 2.0%.
  • XpertHR recorded a median basic pay award of 1.9% across the whole economy for the three months to the end of April (lower quartile: 0.8%; upper quartile: 2.2%), with pay freezes at around a fifth of recorded settlements.
  • The CIPD’s Spring 2021 Labour Market Outlook shows that overall basic pay award expectations have risen to 2%. Median basic pay expectations in the private sector have increased to 2% from 1.5% since the previous report. By comparison, median basic pay expectations in the public sector in the 12 months to April 2022 will be 0.9%, up from 0% in the previous report.
