Pay data: for three months to May 2018

Most employers are making higher pay rises than a year ago, with 2.5% seeming to be the new norm.

  • The three-month average settlement in manufacturing pay is 2.6% according to the latest figures from the Engineering Employers Federation.
  • XpertHR shows that the median basic pay award in the three months to May was 2.5% (the fifth consecutive rolling quarter at which it’s recorded this figure), with the interquartile range worth between 2% and 3.1%.  Nearly two-thirds of awards were worth more than employees received at the same time in 2017.
  • Croner Reward show that, including pay freezes, the average settlement in the four months to May 2018 was 2.0%. The average forecast for the coming year is 2.3%. The average forecast for the next quarter (June to September) is 2.3%.

With RPI inflation (still the most commonly used pay setting benchmark) currently standing at 3.3%, pay awards continue to lag behind inflation.
