May 2018 inflation data

The UK’s main inflation measure in May was unchanged from the previous month at 2.4%.

The inflation measures for the year to May 2018 are as follows:

  • CPI inflation was 2.4% in May (Index: 105.8), unchanged from the year to April
  • CPIH inflation was 2.3% in May (Index: 105.9), up from 2.2% in the year to April
  • RPI inflation was 3.3% in May (Index: 280.7), down from 3.4% in the year to April

A House of Lords Select Committee has begun an inquiry into the use of RPI as a measure of inflation. This could influence whether the Office for National Statistics continue publishing RPI data – still widely used by pay setters.

The CPIH measure is the Office of National Statistic’s preferred index, see ‘New inflation measure’.
