Wage growth on the up?

Pay deals look to be picking up pace at the start of 2018.

  • XpertHR shows that pay deals in the three months to January 2018 (exclusively from the private sector) were worth a median 2.5%, significantly up from the 2% mark at which they were stuck for all of 2017 and the highest they’ve recorded since March 2014.
  • The Engineering Employers Federation’s figures show a 2.4% increase over the same period, as well a sharp decrease in the number of deferrals and pay freezes.
  • The Labour Research Department’s Payline shows the median at 3% for the same period.
  • Croner Reward shows that (including pay freezes) the average settlement in the four months to January 2018 was 2.2%. The average forecast for the coming year is 2.4%.
